Members of Carnoustie Social-Eyes enjoyed a night out at the Webster Theatre on 12 October to see ‘Thank You for The Music – The ultimate tribute to ABBA’.
The V&A Dundee invited group members to their first described tour of the Ocean Liners: Speed and Style exhibition. Kirsten and Margaret accepted the invitation, and attended the event on Monday 5 November. The 75 minute described tour was led by Julianna from the National Galleries of Scotland. Taking the group of blind and partially sighted guests on a journey of ocean liners on an international scale, she described in detail, promotional posters and paintings, examples of engineering and interior design, as well as items depicting the lifestyle on board. Items such as a deckchair recovered from the RMS Titanic, and depictions of the RMS Lusitania were particularly poignant. The excellent described tour brought the exhibition to life, and helped the group visualise things that they may have never seen or experienced before.
Our next event will be a visit to the pantomime – Aladdin, in Carnoustie High School in December.
The next meeting of Carnoustie Social-Eyes – the only independent group in Angus for Blind or Partially Sighted People, will be held on 5 February 2019. New members are welcome.
